Nutritional therapy

What is Nutritional Therapy?

Nutritional Therapy is the application of nutrition science in the promotion of health, peak performance and individual care. Nutritional therapy combines the knowledge of human physiology, biochemistry and nutrition to provide the individual with the right balance of nutrients to support healthy functioning of the body. It supports the body’s natural healing mechanisms allowing relief from the symptoms of ill health. Practitioners never recommend nutritional therapy as a replacement for medical advice and will frequently work alongside a medical professional, and will communicate with other healthcare practitioners involved in the client’s care to explain relevant nutritional therapy interventions.

Who can use Nutritional Therapy?

All ages can benefit from Nutritional Therapy. Males and females have different nutritional needs and will experience different nutritional demands at different stages of life .Nutritional Therapy is recognised as a complimentary medicine and is relevant for individuals with chronic conditions, as well as those looking for support to enhance their health and wellbeing. Practitioners consider each individual to be unique, taking into account certain illnesses or health issues that put an additional demand on the body, and will recommend personalised nutrition and lifestyle programmes, rather than a “one size fits all” approach.

Does Nutritional Therapy involve testing?

Nutritional Therapy practitioners use a wide range of tools including functional diagnostic testing to assess and identify potential nutritional imbalances and understand how these may contribute to an individual’s symptoms and health concerns.

What conditions can Nutritional Therapy support?

Many health conditions will benefit from Nutritional Therapy, depending on the compliancy of the individual. As the function of the body improves so can hormone balance, energy levels, digestion, weight, skin, mood, cardiovascular performance and respiration.
