Aromatherapy at Healing Thyme

Thyme

Noted for its strong antiseptic properties, Thyme is valued as an inhalation for upper respiratory tract infections.

What is Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is the art and science of using plant oils in a holistic treatment. It is a valuable intervention to consider for all ages when illness occurs.

Within a complementary health setting essential oils form part of the overall treatment process, and are used for infants with colic, children with sleep disorders, women with menstrual problems, men with digestive, muscular or stress problems and elderly people with chest or joint disease.

Many oils are now recognised through research for their antiseptic and skin healing properties and are incorporated into conventional treatment.

Aromatherapy comes from the ancient practice of using plants to heal the body, mind and spirit.

I will take a full case history which will enable me to decide, with you, what combination of oils and method of application will be most appropriate for your treatment or relief of symptoms.

Essential oils can be used in baths, compresses, creams/oils for massage and in diffusers for inhalation.

Calendula

Calendula is used externally to soothe inflammatory skin conditions and promote healing.

Rosemary

Rosemary is used in massage to relieve muscle soreness and promote blood flow.  It is not used in pregnacy or when someone has high blood pressure.

Most recently, aromatherapy has become popular as a 'relaxing massage' rather than being recognised as a means of helping the body to heal itself.

Properly used, essential oils are safe but some oils can be hazardous especially in pregnancy, small children and the frail elderly.
