Acupuncture at Healing Thyme

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a tried and tested system of medicine which helps to restore, promote and maintain good health. The acupuncturist inserts ultra fine needles at specific points to promote healing, pain relief and general well-being. Many people are surprised at how effective, and yet how gentle and relaxing acupuncture really is.

Liz Castle Dip COT, Dip Ac, MBAcC is the Acupuncturist at Healing Thyme.

According to Chinese Medicine good health depends upon the smooth flow of “Qi” (energy) through channels around the body. Stimulation of well chosen acupuncture points facilitates this healthy flow, which in turn influences the systems and functions of body and mind.

How acupuncture can help you

Acupuncture can help not only by relieving symptoms, but also by addressing underlying energetic imbalances which can cause them to arise. Acupuncture can offer help to people with a wide range of conditions such as arthritis and rheumatism; other joint and muscle aches and strains;  headaches and migraines;  respiratory disorders including hay fever and other allergies; morning sickness and other problems in pregnancy; problems related to menstruation and menopause such as period pains or hot flushes; digestive disorders; a whole host of stress related disorders such as irritable bowel disorder, anxiety, insomnia, tiredness. Acupuncture can be used for children and adults, and can be given alongside conventional medicine.

If you have a particular problem with your health, are going through a difficult time in your life or would just like to improve your general well-being, acupuncture may be able to offer you significant and long lasting benefits. Liz will be happy to talk to you about how acupuncture can help you.

What to expect during a first appointment

During the consultation Liz will ask you about your symptoms and medical history. In order to identify the underlying causes of your condition and decide on the appropriate treatment she will also use traditional techniques such as pulse taking and tongue diagnosis, to ensure that treatment meets your individual needs.

There are a number of additional techniques associated with acupuncture which Liz may offer, as appropriate, during a treatment. These include:-

• Acupressure massage
• Electro-acupuncture (use of a gentle, low intensity current similar to “tens”)
• Ear acupuncture
• Cupping
• Moxibustion (a gently warming herb used externally to stimulate some points)

Please allow up to an hour and a half for your first appointment to include time for treatment; subsequent appointments last approximately 45 minutes.

Liz can be contacted on 01948 880170 for further information or to make an appointment.  You can also visit her own website here.
